March 16, 1978 • The Amoco Cadiz was a VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier), owned by Amoco, that split in two after running aground on Portsall Rocks, three miles (5 km) off the coast of Brittany (France), on March 16, 1978. L'Amoco Cadiz est le nom d'un pétrolier « super tanker ». Son naufrage, au large des côtes bretonnes, en mars 1978, provoqua une marée noire considérée, aujourd'hui encore, comme l'une des pires catastrophes écologiques de l'histoire.

  3. Thirty years after, the traces of Amoco Cadiz are always present. The shipwreck of the very large crude carrier on the Portsall rock, in the Finistère, has to cause a bigger black tide. Today, some trace are visible again. Trente ans après, les traces de l'Amoco Cadiz perdurent. Le naufrage du pétrolier sur les rochers au large de Portsall, dans le Finistère, avait provoqué une gigantesque marée noire. Des traces sont encore visibles aujourd'hui.

April 18, 1984 • The court held Amoco Corporation, Astilleros and Amoco Production Company as responsible towards the French claimants. 14 avril 1984 : Jugement sur les responsabilités : le tribunal fédéral de Chicago Franck Mac Garr, désigne clairement les responsabilités de la Compagnie Amoco dans la marée noire.

July/September 1990 • A judge ordered Amoco Company to pay about $155 million for damages from the massive 1978 oil spill by the Amoco Cadiz tanker in Brittany. 24 juillet 1990 : Jugement définitif. Le Syndicat Mixte obtient 155 millions de dollars. Septembre 1990 : toutes les parties font appel.

January 22, 1992 • In call, Amoco is condemned to pour 183 million euros in the State and nearly 35 million euros to the victims, that is to say the quarter of the requests of the elected officials, who deplore the absence of taking into account the ecological damage. 24 janvier 1992 : En appel, Amoco est condamné à verser 183 millions d'euros à l'Etat et près de 35 millions d'euros aux victimes, soit le quart des demandes des élus, qui déplorent l'absence de prise en compte du préjudice écologique.

  12. July 1992 • The State, which obtained 183 million euros for its own damage, reverse 35 millions euros to the Brittany disaster victims. Juillet 1992 : L’Etat, qui a obtenu 183 million d’euros reverse 35 millions d’euros aux sinistrés bretons.
