  2. Judaism 1. Founder: Abraham; God spoke to him to lead his people from Mesopotamia, his people became known as the Hebrews 2. Time period 2000 BC 3. Place of Origin: Canaan or Israel

  3. Judaism 4. Text/Holy Book = Tanach or Torah Torah is the Old Testament, 1st five books of Bible

  4. Judaism 5. Holidays • Hanukkah – (December) honors the temple built by Solomon; oil stayed lite for 8 days B. Passover (March/April)- honors the Exodus out of Egypt (symbol = flat bread, not enough time for bread to rise during exodus)

  5. Judaism 6. Main Beliefs: • 1 God = monotheism • 10 commandments = moral laws • Synagogue or temple= place of worship • Rabbi – leads religious ceremonies

  6. Honors Describe what each Jew sect believes in Conservative- Reform- Orthodox – You can use your chrome book…..

  7. Design Cover for your Notes Directions: Design a cover for the Ancient Hebrew Unit in your notebook. Use your Judaism notes to create symbols of this faith.
