Fallingwater is an example of organic architecture, which is a style Wright coined. Organic architecture is architecture inspired by nature. Fallingwater is also very modern, and it was even more modern back when it was built, which was 1935. Now, it is a famous landmark of Pittsburgh and many people come to enjoy its beauty.

  6. When was Fallingwater designed? Fallingwater was designed in 1935, after Edgar J. Kaufmann had a celebration and Wright hinted to his Kaufmann’s son, Edgar Jr., that a house Edgar Kaufmann was going to build didn’t live up to Edgar Jr.’s parents.
  7. Why was Fallingwater built? Fallingwater was built as a home for Edgar J. Kaufmann and his family. Originally, Kaufmann was going to have a different home built, but Wright convinced him otherwise. Edgar J. Kaufmann was very satisfied with the final results.
  8. How was Fallingwater built? It took a lot of time to construct Fallingwater, let alone design it. Using organic architecture, Wright used only four materials to build Fallingwater. The materials were sandstone, reinforced concrete, steel and glass. The construction of Fallingwater took about 4 years, from the end of 1935 to 1939.
