  1. Starter Vector Addition Lab If you are on the ground, what three pieces of information do you need to locate a flying aircraft?

  2. Practice Graphical Addition Pick a scale 2. Draw B on the head of A using a protractor and ruler. Draw R an measure its length and angle.

  3. Practice Analytical Method (Addition by Components) Ax = Acosq Ay = Asinq If R = A + B Rx = Ax + Bx Ry = Ay + By

  4. Practice Experimental Method ( Force Table) 1. Place A and B using the protractor and the correct mass. 2. Adjust E until the ring is centered. 3. The magnitude of R is the same as E. 4. The angle for R is opposite ( 180 degrees) form E’s angle.

  5. Application For each case, do the vector addition graphically, analytically, and experimentally. Find the magnitude and polar angle for R. Case 1: F1 = 155 @ 0o F2 = 105@ 215oR = F1 + F2 Case 2: F1 = 55 @ 270o F2 = 45 @ 0oR = F1 + F2
