About GEDA – Core Business • Provide high value business intelligence pertaining to Trade, Investment and Economic Facilitation and Implementation • Provide Trade and Investment Facilitation Services • Enhance the value of local economic development initiatives • Provide project conceptualization, project initiation, partnership formation and investment securing services, and to coordinate critical public – public and public – private interfaces in support of economic development

  6. Targeted sectors • GEDA’s targeted sectors are: • Manufacturing • -Pharmaceuticals • -Biotechnology • -Automotives and components • -Agroprocessing • BPO and ICT • Mining and beneficiation • Construction • Green economy

  7. Agroprocessing is a process of converting (value –adding) primary agricultural products (plant or animal origin) into tradable commodities. The process entails cutting, milling, slaughtering, fermenting, drying followed by packaging Sector Profile – AgroprocessingDefinition

Sector Profile - Gauteng • Gauteng houses 50% (40 000) of food manufacturing companies in South Africa • 50 000 total employment • R10 billion contribution towards Gauteng’s GGP (Gross Geographic Product) • Only 0.5% contribution to Gauteng GDP in 2009 • Estimated to grow at an annual average of 2.2% per annum between 2009 & 2013.

  9. Sector Profile - Gauteng • Animal production – 44.2%: Meat processing ; leather & hides; dairy products • Crop production – 33.2%: Beverages; Vegetables and fruit processing; Essential Oils; Grain mill products & animal feeds • Horticulture – 22.6%: Ornamental & Cut Flowers
