AMCHP’s Best Practice Program • AMCHP launched the best practice program at the 2007 AMCHP Annual Conference • AMCHP uses the concept of "best practices" to drive our efforts to define, document and disseminate effective models and tools in maternal and child health • AMCHP defines best practice as a continuum of practices, programs and policies ranging from promising to evidence-based to science-based

Best Practice Examples A program that: • Improves care coordination for children and youth with special health care needs • Reduces lead poisoning through home visits • Develops an interagency application process for WIC, Early Intervention and Medicaid • Collaborates with school nurses to improve care for children with asthma

Best Practice Examples A program that: • Successfully reduces the rate of adolescent suicide • Promotes early intervention for hospitalized children • Builds linkages between health and child care systems • Expands screening and intervention for depression in pregnant women • Links data to address infant mortality

  7. AMCHP’s New Innovation Station The “Innovation Station” database application will catalog the promising, evidence-based, and science-based practices that are accepted by the AMCHP Best Practices Review Panel.

AMCHP’s New Innovation Station Features of the database include: • A submission tool that allows the public to submit profiles • A back-end that allows the Best Practices Review Panel to review entries and AMCHP staff to administer the database • A public presentation of the profiles on the AMCHP website • A public portal for profile updates

AMCHP’s New Innovation Station Search Features Simple • State • Population • Public health issue area Advanced • National performance measures • Keyword by project name • Quality improvement process • Evidence based • Expert/peer review process • Practice has been replicated • Sustainability plan in place
