  1. Children’s Dental Care and Prevention-Blooming Smiles are Valuable It is crucial for children to prevent tooth decay or gum disease as much as possible since their teeth are in development by providing oral hygiene instruction and services to meet the child’s dental needs. ★ When should a child’s first visit dentist? Your child should visit the general dentist sooner rather than later. It is highly recommended that children should have their first dental appointment at the age of two. The dentist can examine the child’s teeth and gums at this early age to make sure there is no onset of any dental problems. Your child’s first appointment can get them comfortable with being at the dentist’s care, where the child can get a quick examined. ★ Oral care needs for infants and babies: Best oral care starts before the baby has any visible teeth. Parents must get into the habit of wiping the infant’s gums with a soft, damp washcloth after every meal and before bedtime. When the teeth begin to emerge out, a soft toothbrush can be used to brush the teeth. It is essential to prevent tooth decay by not allowing your child to take anything consumable (other than water) to bed at night. If your child is reaching the second birthday and hasn’t been to the dentist yet, then it's the right time to visit the general dentist. ★ Essential dental care practices for kids: ● Limit the intake of high-sugar foods and beverages as much as possible. ● Educate the child at an early age how to brush and floss properly. ● Children should brush with a fluoride toothpaste as least twice a day, especially after meals and before bedtime. Help the younger children brush until they can do so themselves. ● Children should always use a soft bristled toothbrush that is small enough to reach all areas of the mouth. Immediately purchase a new toothbrush when the bristles begin to wear down. ● Minimize the amount of toothpaste swallowed by the child. It is advisable to use only a pea-size amount of toothpaste every time they brush and practice them how to rinse and spit properly during brushing. ● Children should receive a thorough examination and professional cleanings, once in 6 months. ● Children need to floss their teeth every night before bedtime to remove the plaque that cannot be removed by regular brushing.

  2. ● If required provide fluoride supplements for children who do not receive an adequate amount of fluoride. ● If necessary place dental sealants on the teeth to prevent decay. ★ Why are prevention and care important for children and teens? If you allow dental problems to go on and on without any proper treatment, you will probably end up with major dental issues. Major dental problems could cost you a significant expense of money and time in a long run. To avoid this, do visit your dentist for a regular checkup and cleaning appointments twice a year. These appointments allow the dentists to keep a close eye on your dental health, and to catch the problems at an early stage before it turns into a big problem. Just remember: it costs much more to have teeth repaired and replaced than it does for routine cleanings and exams. ★ Gentle children’s dentistry at Jersey Shore Dental Care: Unfortunately, many children are feared of a dentist.
