  1. Camp Kaitawa By Glen Oliver

  2. Wow! It was the day the year 6’s from Reignier Catholic School were heading off to Camp Kaitawa. I can remember the tension building inside of me. It was a week filled with challenging walks and adventurous challenges . Pouring rain, a humungous hill, a muddy walk through huge caves and amazing waterfalls. It was a great adventure and so exhausting!

  3. Finally we had arrived at Camp Kaitawa. We went into the bunkrooms and chose our beds and unpacked. When we had finished unpacking we got a tour of the place but then, oh no, it started to rain and we still went out anyway. We walked down the hill to Lake Kaitawa and see we saw the power station. It was very old though. We also saw an awesome green lake. It was an hour so I thought we would have finished but we had to walk up a never ending pipeline. Once we got to the top there was no way to get out so we had to go back down to the bottom of the pipeline. We walked back up to camp. Finally we got back and dried ourselves off. We went into the dinning room, yum! I could smell it from down the hall. Wow the food was so good!

  4. The next day we heard we were going on a walk so we had breakfast and then got packing. We had to pack two drink bottles, lunch, a woollen hat, a hat and a raincoat. We set off in our cars down the road to the start of Ngamoko. We saw a colourful bird there as well. We started down the trail. About 20 minutes into the walk we saw the Rata tree and it was 800-1000 years old. It was so high. We carried on walking. Round about 3 hours and then we stopped for lunch, we had a roll and more. We carried on walking as usual for a couple more hours then we saw a sign saying we had walked for 6 hours then on the other side it said 1 hour I said oh no. We carried on walking and then later on we saw a sign saying 5 minutes left so we started sprinting. We had finished but then we saw our camp in the distance. It only took 10 minutes though. We got back to camp we got free time. Soon it was dinner and we ate and then bed.

  5. On Wednesday we knew we would be going on a walk so we started packing and still had to bring the same items. We went to the dinning room to get our drink bottles. We went to the beginning of the great lake walk, we started the walk. We were walking for 10 minutes and then we saw an old prison. It was just a place under a rock and covered round with fence but it worked. We carried on with the walk and we saw an amazing view. We heard that they had built a settlement there because they could see anyone coming to attack them. The walk lead to a lake and by the lake was a grave that belonged to Michael Noonan, or as some people liked to call him The Headless Horseman. Then we went back and headed off to the caves and it was really muddy. We went through giant caves and muddy closed in spaces, Mr Crawford nearly got stuck in most of them. I thought we were lost because we ended up in same place 3 times. We finally got out covered in mud. We went back had a shower but if we took too long we got sprayed with a hose. We had hamburgers and then went to bed.

  6. It was now Thursday so we had breakfast, got ready and left. We went down Aniwaniwa Rd and over Aniwaniwa river. We went to a bush walk just by the river and on the way we saw humungous tree and steep edges of the pathway. Once we finished the walk we got to a lake it was huge we also saw some little boats. We had morning tea in a little hut right next to the lake. We headed back down the tracks and then WOW we walked past two people with two huge rifles. Then we had our lunch on this big, old transporting device. After that we went to a waterfall, it was beautiful. But then we walked up for a bit and we saw an even better view of the waterfall, it looked fantastic. Then we went back to camp and lit a fire. The fire was for cooking our own meals. We were making nachos and it turned out fabulous for our group and it was so tasty. We had a talent show not long after but we didn’t win.

  7. Now Friday the day we were going to leave this glorious camp. We packed up and let the grown ups do the rest so we just headed back down to the playing courts and started playing it was so fun. We headed back and all the rooms were spotless. We put all the gear in the trailer. We left at around 10:30 and got to Wairoa and had fish and chips for lunch. We got back at school at 3:00. It was a great welcoming party when we got back and it all finished off with a loving hug from my Mum. The camp was great and so fun but I think the best part was the hug from my Mum! THE END
