Overview of Atomic Theories: Dalton and Thomson

This presentation delves into the foundational atomic theories proposed by John Dalton and J.J. Thomson. Dalton's theory establishes that all matter is composed of indivisible atoms, highlights that atoms of the same element are identical, and introduces the idea of compounds as combinations of different atoms. In contrast, Thomson's theory describes the atom as a positively charged sphere with negatively charged electrons embedded within it, maintaining electrical neutrality. This summary also acknowledges the contributions of the presenters and guiding educators.

Atoms are indivisible and indestructible. 2) All atoms of a given element are identical in mass and properties 3) Compounds are formed by a combination of two or more different kinds of atoms. 4) A chemical reaction is arearrangement of atoms.
Thomson’s Atomic Theory • 1. An atom consists of a sphere of positive charge with negatively charged electron embedded in it, • 2. The positive and the negative charges in an atom are equal in magnitude, due to which an atom is electrically neutral. It has no over all negative or positive charge.
