  8. How to tackle RinS Understand the overall goals, purpose, and findings in the article. What problem is the author trying to solve and what does she/he show? Answer the following questions: What is the purpose of the article (i.e., academically, why did the author write this paper – is it tied into a debate?). (Puzzle/contribution). Identify the main argument of the chapter (thesis). Identify and define all key terms and key figures. How do they relate to the main arguments in the text?

  9. Readings in Sociology Two sections, 7 chapters SO about three questions per chapter. This means NOT studying one chapter will seriously affect your grade. NOT reading one section is the difference between an A and a B (10-12 %).

  10. Important Ideas Readings in Sociology -What are structural constraints and what elements of family life do they relate to? -What is the morality sex gap? -Understand and explain issues of gender life expectancy -what is biological citizenship? -What is the Kirby Report? -What is Ontological choreography?

  11. Important Ideas Social Problems -Understand how addiction is socially influenced. How does this related to definitions of ‘addiction’? -What is medicalization? -What is social disorganization theory? -What is the ‘sick role’? Which social theory is it associated with?

  12. Multiple Choice Questions Think strategy. Don’t just ‘blindly’ answer each question. For each question you should have game plan. Think carefully and dissect each short question. The way each question is written should give you 1 or two hints. Figure out what these are before you think about the correct answer.

  13. Discussion Question What is Merton’s theory of ‘Anomie’? How does it explain, or interpret, addiction? Which ‘ideal type’ in this theory is most likely to lead to addiction? Do you agree with his theory?
