  3. Roberta’s Young Days Roberta Bondar was very determined. This young woman was born on December 4, 1945, in Sault St. Marie, Ontario, Canada. From the time she little she dreamed of being an astronaut. In fact, she talked about being an astronaut when she was as young as eight years old.

  4. First Canadian Woman to Visit Space Roberta Bondar was the first Canadian woman to travel into space, on space shuttle Discovery. Roberta left to go into space on January 22, 1992, and returned back to earth on January 30, 1992.

  5. Roberta’s Education Roberta earned her bachelor’s degree in zoology and agriculture from the University of Guelph. After she earned her Bachelor’s degree, she went to the University of Western Ontario to earn a Master’s degree in experimental pathology in 1971.
