  3. Objektif: • By the end of the course, students are able to analyze poetry from various traditions and develop understanding on language and structure of poems

  4. Sinopsis: • This course offers a general overview of the development of poetry from various literary traditions; critical and literary appreciation of language of poetry; pedagogy of teaching the various kinds of poems.

  5. Kandungan • Development of poetry form. • Aspects of poems • Examining poems as teaching resource in a language classroom. • Critical study of selected poems. • Teaching poems in the literary classroom

  6. Penilaian • Blogspot Entries(5) 20% • Microteaching 20% • Midsemester Examination 30% • Final Examination 30%

  7. Prescribed Texts • Selected Poems • Literature in the Language Classroom by Joanne Collie and Stephen Slater (2001) published by Cambridge University Press

  8. Study Guide • Comprehensive analysis is available on the net for free • Google the title of the poems • There are samples of questions and topics for discussion available

  9. Caution • Please read the assigned poems several times • Nothing can replace reading of the poems itself. • Read the poems and not read readings about the poems. Secondary interpretations) • All assigned poems are available online • It is also available at http://www.juridahrashid.blogspot.com

  10. Midsemester Examination • Will be based on poems assigned for week 1 to 7 Format – essay question There are 2 sections to the paper Section A You are given 4 questions. You answer ALL questions. Section B You are given 2 analysis/synthesis questions. You answer 1 question.

  11. Blogspot Entries (Assignment 1) • Go to www.juridahrashid.blogspot.com • Select label EDU 3216 PPL • Look out for the current dates. • I will post a topic for our discussion for each of the assigned poem. • Please adhere to the due date. • 1 day late entry will result in losing 1 point.

  12. Microteaching (Assignment 2) • There are 3 parts to this assignment: • Part 1 – write a lesson plan for 1 complete lesson of a given topic. The lesson could either be for a single or double period (40 or 80 minutes lesson). Topics will be posted on blogspot.com • Part 2 – you are to teach part of the planned lesson, a total of 15 minutes teaching. Teaching will be done on campus. Schedule will be given after 1st meeting and will be published on the blogspot. • Part 3 – 1 week after your microteaching you are to submit a reflection/reaction paper. You are to analyze your own teaching. Do you think it is a success? Failure? In what area and at what stage you could further improve your teaching/lesson. • You are to include all the teaching aids that you use when you submit your lesson plan. Lesson plan to be submitted on the day you do your micro teaching.
