  4. UCOP Earthquake Preparedness • Each Floor/Department/Unit • Food & Water for 3 Days • First Aid Kit • Flashlight and Battery-Operated Radio • Individuals • Walking Shoes • Individual Prescription Medications • Personal Hygiene Items (3 days)

  5. Individual Work Area Preparedness • Remove or Secure Heavy Overhead Items • May Fall On You or Block Your Egress • Office Contents • Large Heavy Objects on Lower Shelves • Place Breakables on Lower Shelves/Closed Cabinets • Overhead Cabinets - Closed/Latched • Secure Breakables with Quake Putty or Museum Gel

  6. Seismic Hazard Mitigation Policy • Free-Standing Partitions, Bookcases, Shelving, & Cabinets 6 ft. or Taller • Must Be Braced or Anchored to Prevent Them From Tipping Over • Submit i - Request to Building Services for Bracing

  7. During an Earthquake - Indoors • Stay There! Do NOT Run Outside • Stay Calm & Remember to “Drop, Cover, and Hold” • Drop – Look for Cover • Cover – Under a Sturdy Desk or Table • Hold – onto the Furniture Leg Until Shaking Stops

  8. During an Earthquake - Indoors • Face Away from Windows • Stay Clear of Tall Objects that May Topple Over • Watch for Falling Objects

  9. After the Initial Shock Has Subsided • Remain Calm & Be Prepared for Aftershocks • Check for Injuries & Administer First Aid to the Degree You Are Trained • Check for Obvious Hazards & Damage on Your Floor • Do Not Turn on or Off any Lighting or Electrical Devices

  10. After the Initial Shock Has Subsided • Do Not Use Telephones Except in Extreme Emergencies • Make sure phone is on the hook • Follow Directions Over Building PA System or Floor Warden Directions • Use Emergency Supplies If Necessary

  11. Floor Wardens After Quake • Gather Occupants at Pre-Selected Gathering Place • Perform Head Count – Account for Everyone • Search Floor for Missing or Injured Personnel • Attend to Injured Persons

  12. Floor Wardens After Quake • Prepare Condition Report for Area & Provide to Building Management • Number of People on Floor • Number of Injured People & Description of Injuries • Description of Obvious Damage • Immediate Needs • Floor Cannot Immediately Evacuate • Must Assess Damage to Stairways

  13. Floor Wardens After Quake • Assign a Person to Listen to the Battery-Operated Radio • Surrounding Community Status • Emergency Instructions • Emergency Supply Inventory • May Need to Last Several Days • Conserve Supplies • Wait for O.K. to Evacuate
