  1. Workplace Discrimination, Bullying & Harassment Workshop

  2. Our Aims Burbank aims to provide a workplace free from any form of discrimination, bullying or harassment.

  3. Reporting All reports of discrimination, bullying and harassment will be treated seriously and investigated promptly. All complaints will be kept confidential. People who believe they are being discriminated against should contact their Manager or Human Resources Manager.

  4. Bullying Workplace bullying occurs when: • an individual or group of individuals repeatedly behaves unreasonably towards a worker or a group of workers at work, AND • the behaviour creates a risk to health and safety. Reasonable management action conducted in a reasonable manner does not constitute workplace bullying.

  5. What does ‘Reasonable management action mean? The following are examples of what may constitute management action: • Performance appraisals • Ongoing meetings to address underperformance • Counselling or disciplining a worker for misconduct • Modifying a worker’s duties including by transferring or re-deploying the worker • Investigating alleged misconduct • Denying a worker a benefit in relation to their employment • Refusing an employee permission to return to work due to a medical condition

  6. When is a worker bullied at work? A worker is bullied at work if, while the worker is at work, another individual, or group of individuals, repeatedly behaves unreasonably towards the worker, and that behaviour creates a risk to health and safety.

Bullying can include: • • Deliberately changing work rosters to victimise particular employees. • • Verbal abuse. • • Initiation practices. • • Sabotaging someone’s work. • • Ridiculing someone’s opinion. • Setting up person to fail by setting impossible deadlines. • • Excluding someone from workplace activities. • • Giving someone the majority of unpleasant tasks. • •Cyber bullying • • Humiliating someone through sarcasm or insults. • • Intimidation.

  8. The effects of Bullying can include: • Lack of confidence. • Can include Physical health effects. • Anxiety. • Mood swings. • Difficulty sleeping. • Spending a lot of time alone. • Self conscience. • Self harm. • Suicide

  9. What to do? • Let the person know how you feel. • Speak to your line manager about what is happening to you. • Speak to Human Resources . • Refer to the Burbank Issue Resolution procedure. • The Burbank Human Resources Manager will provide information for support networks or further information.
