  2. WHO IS THAMUS • Thamus is a Consortium of Galileo Avionica • with the following aims: • Products and services in the field of documentary engineering • Research aimed at the creation of informatic instruments for documentary management. Un Consorzio

  3. Activities • THAMUS Consortium operates in the field of: • new information technologies • documentary engineering • computational linguistics • multilingual technical documentation Un Consorzio

  4. In particular, THAMUS operates in the following fields: Activities • Documentary engineering: - technical manuals - translations • Computer science: - localization - e-learning - WEB portals - multimedia manuals - CBT • Research activities: - computational linguistics Consorzio

Strategic aims • Consolidate our position as a reference firm within Galileo Avionica in the field of technical documentation • Acquire an important position within FINMECCANICA in the field of technical documentation and e-services • Diversify activities by offering multimedia products (CBT, e-learning, interactive manuals, etc.) in line with the market expectations • Reach high levels of efficiency • Control costs for sustaining in an appropriate way the increase of economic indexes and in the meanwhile offer more competitive products

This process includes different aspects such as technical-functional, linguistic and cultural ones. “Localization revolves around combining language and technology to produce a product that can cross cultural and language barriers.” The critical factor in localization is represented by the technical-informatic management of problems. ResearchComputational linguistics THAMUS was founded as a Consortium for Computational Linguistics in 1988 with the aim to carry out research in industrial applications in the field of NaturalLanguage Processing (NLP). The Consortium’s activities concern the advanced research in Natural Language Processing on one hand and on the other planning and development of applications for language industry. Un Consorzio

Thamus is registered since 1990 at the “Anagrafe Nazionale delle Ricerche” which is an Italian registry for research. Research SEALIS ProjectSearch Engine for Advanced Learning and Information Systems IST-2004-2.4.7 Semantic based Knowledge and Content Systems The project aims at creating semantic applications capable of understanding the meaning of contents and guiding the user directly towards information searched for by using advanced strategies and through semantic queries. These searches can be carried out by means of an ontological structure which will represent the platform for identifying such information. Un Consorzio
