GLOBE GLOBE is a Green Light on a Better Environment Subsidiary of Social Housing Services Corporation Integrated Sustainability Program – education, technical support, new technologies, resources, customer service and program access Support social housing providers, Service Managers, sector organizations, and residents to navigate the world of green and sustainable practice
A Case in Point Holma Sweden • 1980’s low income suburb with safety and maintenance problems • Landlord creates self managed program to respond to complaints in exchange for reduced rent • Includes landscaping, painting, common are upgrades • Led to participatory model, reduced damage, much improved living conditions
Light Up Program • GLOBE installed 136,429 CFL bulbs in 28,602 units representing • 6.65 megawatt savings • 31 Community Champion’s trained • Over 200 housing provider managers and staff received GLOBE’s technical/conservation and resident engagement training • 10 youth received life skills, job skills and maintenance training and were hired to assist in installation services
SHSC Bulk Purchase • Bulk purchasing programs leverage ‘the power of the group” • Launched new bulk buy program in November 2009 for products such as kitchen appliances, windows and doors • Negotiated volume discount based on housing provider participation • Includes extended warranties and environmental decommissioning
