5. Sample Paragraph • 3rd person POV/ Gorilla (1st person) POV The gorilla stares out into the crowds of those thronging to catch a glimpse of one of nature’s wonders. Unsettled, this new habitat is unfamiliar to the gorilla. Slowly eating, he hides his food from the viewers, wishing for peace and quiet like the quiet he was recently uprooted from. His course hair, almost too course to be thought of as movable, sways in the wind, matching the swaying palms behind him. The wind is strong today, alluding to the storm that is approaching. “Humphh, humphh,” the gorilla emits with flaming nostrils, hoping that the humans will understand that this is a warning call. Possessiveness is a common trait in a gorilla… Wow, I have never seen things like this before. What does it want from me? Does it want my food? The sweet smell of my papaya is now muffled with this intruding scent of sour. Why? So many smells that I am not used to! Wait, one is moving closer. What does this white thing want? Colors, so many moving colors! Where is the green? The sour stench is getting closer. “Tap, Tap, Tap,” What is this clear thing in between me and it? “Tap, tap, tap,” they pound on it like I pound on my chest. Is this it’s warning call? Am I in it’s territory? I see something. What is it grabbing out of its sack? A black protruding thing is emerging; will it hurt me? “Click.” Light! The clicking and the flash do not stop! I need to get rid of all of this; it is either it or me! I want peace and quiet! That’s it; Watch out! I want to go home!
