Black Warrior River In the early days… • The first master’s degree was awarded in 1832, even though there was not an official graduate school until 1924. The University’s junior class, 1902
Over the years… • Enrollment continued to grow, especially during the 1960s. • More graduate programs became available to a wide variety of students. University Club Foster Auditorium
Continuing to grow and change… The University of Alabama Graduate School continues to be a driving force in higher education, while expanding its reach throughout the U.S. and the world.

The future of the graduate school is bright… • The Graduate School continues to develop new degree programs, including degrees in the areas of engineering, business, and education.

Future Developments The College of Communication & Information Sciences is planning aCenter for Creative Media. The University will open Shelby Hall, a new interdisciplinary science building, in the fall of 2003.
