  2. IB Speak • IA – Internal Assessment: Assessment completed in the school and submitted to IB for moderation. Usually about 20% of Final IB grade • External Assessment: Assessment marked by IB. Usually about 70% of final IB grade. • Papers: Exams

  3. IB Speak • Scripts: Completed exams • IBA: IB Americas • IBCA: IB Curriculum and Assessment Office located in Cardiff • Regional Office: One of several administrative centres. New York – soon to be in Virginia - Buenos Aires and Vancouver are the regional Offices for IBA

IB Speak • Certificate Candidates: Students registered in IB Program, but not taking all the requirements for the IB Diploma • Diploma Candidates: Students registered in their final year of the program taking all the requirements for the IB Diploma. • Anticipated Candidates: Students registered in their first year of the program and expecting to take all the requirements for the IB Diploma.

  5. IB Speak • Higher Level (HL): Courses offered in more depth and at a higher degree of difficulty -240 hours • Standard Level (SL):Courses offered in less depth - 150 hours • ab initio: Introductory language level

  6. IB Speak • CAS: Creativity, Action, Service • EE: Extended Essay • ToK: Theory of Knowledge • Moderation:A process by which an IB Examiner checks assessed work to ensure that standards and criterion are being applied correctly and consistently.

IB Speak • World Literature Paper: External Assessment Component for Language A1 subjects. • Oral Samples: Internal Assessment Components for Language A & B subjects. • Predicted Grades: The grades, on the IB 7 Point Scale, that a teacher believes a candidate will achieve once all IB assessments are complete.
