  1. Development of new technologies for the flexible and eco-efficient production of customized healthy clothing, footwear and orthotics for consumers with highly individualised needs 284871 FASHION-ABLE Wheelchair Users Clothing Configurator Purpose of the configurator. Wheelchair users have highly individualized functional needs for their garments. Anthropometric requirements and usability & materials design criteria are to be considered. A configurator has been developed providing technological solutions to all the functional requirements of the paraplegic and quadriplegic wheelchair users. The adequate contents of the configurator enables these consumers to design personalized, fashionable, comfortable, healthy and save garments. Currently this configurator is in a testing environment (phase 1), the final live version (phase 2) will be ready by early 2014. Purpose of the configurator. Configurator homepage Tetraplegic athletes playing in a para-olympic competition Main features of the configurator (1) - The wheelchair user can make his choice from a gallery of fabric samples: he can select his preferred colour print and the functionality which is most appropriate for him (fabric composition and finishing). Examples: hydrophylic/hydrophobic finishing, low/high friction, anti bacteria, repelling bad smell, high breathability and low/high thermal isolation. - Elbow and forearm pads from 3D spacer material are available. They protect the wheelchair user from friction and pressure. A contrasting print makes the shirt more fashionable. Elbow leather and back spacers provide extra protection. • Extensions • Piacenza • IMS Fabrics gallery Elbow spacers with contrasting print 2. Compute drape 3. Place designs, etc. Main features of the configurator (2) - There are different types of openings. The front-side seam opening on the right side of the shirt allows for ease in dressing the shirt, starting at the side seam at the hem, running up the sleeve and the arm hole, ending just above the cuff. Undressing is done with the same ease in reverse order. In case caregivers (un)dress the shirt a back opening is an alternative to the front-side opening. - As tetraplegics usually have little feeling in their fingers, closures that they can easily handle are preferred: buttons are replaced by Velcro, tape, zips or snap buttons. 5. Compute textured marker 4. Compute marker Undressing a shirt with front seam Back opening Main features of the configurator (3)– Design options are available enabling the wheelchair user to individualize his garment: there are different designs of collars, pockets, hems, cuffs and monograms. So disabled consumers can look as fashionable as people without a handicap. - Because of the great variety of anthropometric requirements it is necessary to determine the complete sizing chart (8 upper body measures) with a measurement tape. This will guarantee a good fit of the garment.
