  2. Things to Consider! What is exploration? Who were explorers? Why did they explore?

Background What is exploration? • To travel for discovery • Travel undertaken to discover what a place is like or where it is • People all over the world have explored, do explore and will explore in the future Why do people explore? • To meet needs such as food, shelter, and safety • Out of curiosity • Adventure and excitement • Rich and famous • Find Resources • Etc.

  4. Introduction Who’s Who??? As an “explorer” you are going to “discover” a European explorer! ** You are responsible of finding out facts of your explorer to share with the class of your findings!

  5. Task • When discovering facts of your European explorer. You will need to write down the following information. Who’s Who?? • What country did they explore for? • Where was your explorer born? • What did they find? • What are they most famous for?

  6. Process • Step 1 – Choose an explorer that interests you (this will be someone you would like to discover more about) Use the resources to help you decide and answer the questions • Step 2- Choose a partner that would like to research the same explorer • Step 3- Answer the questions from the task • Step 4- Decide as group how you will present this to the class

  7. Process Continued Answer the following questions Who’s Who?? • What country did they explore for? • Where was your explorer born? • What did they find? • What are they most famous for? • *Interesting fact that you learned and would like to share with the class**

(check) • *What Country did they explore? • *Where your explorer was born? • *Why were they exploring? • *What are they most famous for? • How you present to the class • *Remember you are an explorer and you want us to hear what you have found! Be clear and created with your presentation!

  10. Conclusion • There are many explorers in our world who discovered and found new things for many different reasons. Don’t let your discovery of new explorers stop here! There were Spanish explorers, French explorers and many more!
