  2. Top 10 Things NOT to Do on a Date 10. Having no backup plan for your outdoor date 9. Forgetting the directions to your destination 8. Forgetting to bring your wallet 7. Waiting until after you picked up your dates to plan the activities 6. Not arranging who’s driving for the date 5. Picking up your date an hour late (and not calling) 4. Choosing an activity that your dates have no interest in or cuisine that your date cannot eat (allergies, diets, vegan) 3. Ignoring your date while you talk with your double’s date the whole time 2. Over-sharing details that no one needs to know 1. Forgetting that you were having a date

  3. Why the Emphasis on Dating? There are several reasons that dating is important in the church! Let’s look at some of them.

  4. Different from the World! The world’s practices are driven by selfishness and without regard for God’s purposes. We are driven to make Jesus Lord! For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretention that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Cor 10:3-5

  5. Marry Wisely! For most of you, marriage is in your future. Get to know the type of person you may want to marry. Who you marry will in large part determine how you live this life, and may well determine where you spend eternity. A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones. Proverbs 12:4 A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Proverbs 31:10

  6. Be a Bright Light to the World! When your friends in the world ask what you did on the weekend, they will want to know more about the great dates you’re having without a trace of compromise or immorality. In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us. Titus 2:7-9 You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Matthew 5:14

  7. Love Your Brothers and Sisters! The world is giving us strong invitations to find love in all the wrong places. If we are not loving one another, the pull of the world becomes harder to resist. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Romans 12:10 Suppose a brother or sister seldom goes out on a date. If one of you says to them, “Go, I wish you well; feel loved and appreciated,” but does nothing to make it happen, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. James 2:15-17 (adapted)

  8. Make Your Ministry Attractive! What we have is amazing. There are many out there who will want to come to our gracious God, once they see the types of relationships that disciples have. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. John 13:35 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. Acts 2:46-47

  9. Encourage One Another! Everyone needs encouraging. Let us meet one another's needs. Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. Hebrews 3:12-13

  10. Be a Giver! Jesus calls us to be generous and giving. Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the saints. Philemon 7 One man gives freely, yet gains even more; Another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous man will prosper; He who refreshes others will himself be refreshed. Proverbs 11:24-25

  11. Train Yourself to Be Godly! The world pushes lust-based relationships. We need training in godly relationships. We need, not just eros love, or even just phileo love. We need to learn agape love. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Philippians 2:4 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart. 1 Peter 1:22
