  2. The world we live in has become an extremely dangerous place due to the use and accessibility of weapons. Hence, the need for improved security is now of paramount importance.  • That being said, the steel industry is not excluded from the technological developments in the security sector, especially with ballistic steel armour becoming a global consumable for protection against explosions or ballistic properties. • In this article, we will discuss what ballistic steel armour is, how it is made, and how companies can avail it.

What Is Ballistic Steel Armour • Ballistic steel armour plates are highly suitable for protection against the pressure caused by blasts and other explosions.  • The material has been treated to have improved hardness and strength, which results in an advanced ballistic property. This steel is used in a host of various applications. The main applications include:  • Military Vehicles & associative equipment • Security vehicles and cars • Walls, doors and window frames • Bank Counters and Bank Vaults

To ensure the steel has properties that make it hard and strong, it also needs to maintain good dimensional accuracy and excellent flatness.  • However, to be effective, the armour plate steel should be extremely hard and must have a great resistance to shock. Only then will the steel be capable of providing blast and ballistic protection. Hence, the entire process of creating ballistic steel armour needs to be rigorously monitored and effectively followed. But, how is ballistic steel armour made? 

  5. How Is Ballistic Steel Armour Made? • Ballistic steelarmour is made in the same way as many other forms of modern plate steel, which includes iron, coal, steel scrap. In this process, various minerals are fired and melted in a blast furnace to create what is called “heat.” This heat is then poured out and rolled into slabs of chemically-similar material at a specified width. The slabs are then allowed to cool, following which they are re-heated and rolled under a mill to a lesser thickness. The slabs are then cut to a certain length while still hot, which are then allowed to cool again

That twisted cubical variant of iron crystals is described martensite, hence the name “martensitic armour steels”. • A secondary heat treatment method, named tempering, can be implemented to produce the steel more flexible, formable in a cold state, and less susceptible to fatigue shattering.  • In conclusion, over the past decade, steel manufacturing technology has developed tenfold, with armouring companies in UAE like Cemar International pushing the lines to create new and advanced products. So, the future of ballistic steel armour is surely bright!
