  2. Program Involvement 2007-2008 • During 2007-2008 our program included: • 1,815 students . . . • served a total of 10,553 hours . . . • at 65 agencies . . . • valued at $205,879!

  4. What the Students Say… ~ When the kids clapped after my reading and were quiet during my reading, I felt very important. I loved the attention they gave me and that they wanted me to read again. ~ I work with geriatrics now and was thinking of nursing home work after graduation – it gave me an insight as to the different patients in nursing homes and how things run. The staff there was so important to my patient’s transition and I want to help people make that transition. ~ It opened my eyes to the dangers of Bush Honeysuckle.

  5. Americorps* VISTA and Me Mike Foster John Burroughs Graduate Worked in SL/CE office for May Project VISTA – A one year commitment, meant to enhance capacity of institutions that combat poverty. Faculty Increase Service-Learning opportunities to address issues of poverty Students Increase student awareness of the issue of poverty and lead them to action Community Partners Deepen relationships with current partners and develop new ones

  6. Hunger Awareness • 11,500+ lbs collected from Meramec alone • $1,770 Collected from Empty Bowls Luncheon • 60+ students attended Hunger 101 Sessions

  7. Nurses for Newborns Collection Looking for faculty sponsors of upcoming collection for Nurses for Newborns Foundation. Director of Volunteer Services Victoria Stanley available as class speaker. Dates and further details TBA

  8. Kirkwood Living Green Kirkwood Living Green (KLG) is a nonprofit group formed in 2007 to promote, demonstrate, and celebrate lifestyle choices that protect and conserve natural resources. Kirkwood Farmer’s Market – 4/4, 4/11 Lake Testing – Looking for student involvement. Promoting Biodegradable containers Raising rain garden awareness http://www.kirkwoodlivinggreen.org/

Spring Break 2008 – New Orleans • Spend Spring Break repairing homes in New Orleans • Drywall, scraping, painting, landscaping • Sign up by contacting Campus Life (SC 223) or Service Learning (BA219J) Offices. • Get 1 Credit Hour for the trip by taking PRD 122 • See the presentation to learn more. • Come to the next meeting, 2pm February 5, SC 200-201 • NOLA Spring Break Work Trip • March 15 – March 20

Women’s History Month Photography students will work with Missouri Women in Trades to help select, print and mat client profiles for its Tradeswoman Calendar and central office Photography students will work with clients at Food Outreach to encourage them to become artists and use photography to portray their life’s situation. • See exhibits in Humanities East • March 23 - 27

  11. Service-Learning Journal Ongoing project to compile all forms of reflection on Service-Learning. Any essays, poems, photographs, artwork , oral history records, etc. are all welcome. All submissions to the office of Denise Sperruzza CS117 Please include hard copy, disc copy (Word), student(s) names(s), and agency served Set to publish in Fall 2009.
