The Real Purpose of a University Education All my life I knew I would be attending college. There never seemed to be any other option available as far as I knew. I never really stopped to think about whether or not it was necessary for me, or why it was so important; I was just funneled into the college curriculum in high school. I have attended the University of Arkansas for three years now, and have heard two main arguments over the purpose of a college education. One is that college is a place to train for a job, and the other is that college should be an institute of higher learning with no real focus on a future job. Challenged to form an opinion on this matter, I finally decided that neither side is absolutely right. In...show more content... I'm not saying that people who enjoy learning and attend college simply to gain as much knowledge as possible are wrong. College is a place where learning is encouraged and students have the time and resources to absorb as much as possible. There are teachers who are available to offer guidance to interested students. When else in life will you have someone whose job is to try to make you a more cultured, intelligent human being? There is a great deal of value in this point of view. There is no reason why a person shouldn't want to learn. I consider myself to be one of these people. College has nothing to do with my future career. After graduation I plan to go to culinary school, but I want to attend college. Why waste my time and money here when it has nothing to do with what I will be doing for the rest of my life? I love to learn. I could just as easily be off training for my future job, but I think that college has some certain benefits that I do not want to miss out on. These two basic ideas about college conflict in a lot of ways. For example, there has been talk of the large corporate influence on the education process at the University of Arkansas lately. This has caused some controversy, and once again, put the purpose of a university education into the limelight. Those who think the purpose of the university is to train for jobs say that the corporate influence is beneficial to the students. Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Liberty University Application Essay Sample Since I was fifteen I have always been drawn to answering important questions, engaging in meaningful discussions, and touching lives in intentional and personal ways. My favourite thing to do is disciple; engage in authentic conversations about life, relationships, and Jesus through a mixture of counseling, mentoring, and teaching. I have been intrigued by philosophy and theology since high school. Since then I did my undergraduate degree at Summit Pacific College, close to where I live so that I could help my family build our new house, while preparing to impact my world for Christ. At Summit, I earned a BA in Religion, with a major in Biblical Theology. In this major I took exegetical coursework, first year Hebrew and Greek, and was prepared for Graduate studies with a thesis course. Through my passions and experiences with people, as well as study, I am convinced that God has given me the desire and gifts to serve Him through discipling others. Ideally, I plan to work with young adults as they commonly need, and want, answers to questions of identity, truth, apologetics, and relationships, with Jesus and others. Everyone should have personal goals that evolve around anything that needs to be accomplished. I set goals on a daily basis. One goal that I seem to have not truly focused on has been my college education. Considering all things, I decided I needed to focus on my college education. The first thing I needed to accomplish was to enroll in an institution for higher learning. Now that my enrollment is complete, I am an official student at the University enrolled in the undergraduate program for business management. This means that I will have to complete all assignments, assuring accuracy and the quality of my work. Assuring that I complete all assignments, I will also need to do all assignments before they are due. This will allow me time to make sure that all corrections are done prior to me turning the assignments in. To help me along my journey to success, I have made two colorful, eye catching boards that I will allow myself to look at everyday. The first goal board that I have is a weekly board that I will use for each class. On this board I will have my individual weekly assignments and my team weekly assignments with start and due dates. Also I will have contact numbers and email addresses for people who will benefit me in my course. This would include all my classmates, teammates, and instructor. As I complete an assignment I will draw a line through that assignment. The second board that I have displays all my overall personal goals. Essay about Higher Education Higher education is optional, but to enter a respectable career, one must continue their education in order to achieve his financial and/or personal goals. Teenagers who attend college use their extended schooling to further obtain knowledge. The primary objective of higher education is to enhance one's abilities for his future. A student can learn from school in numerous ways, but liberal education is not a way to attract students into further and higher education. However, students can learn a lot more through experiences that have affected their personal lives. I agree with author Mike Rose's theory that education needs are reached to obtain a higher academic level by teaching students information that can be related to their personal...show more content... However, he has not thought about the students who want to attend college and quickly earn their degree so they can start their careers. I disagree with Bloom because he encourages the idea of taking extra irrelevant classes to achieve the experience of education. It usually takes about four years to earn a bachelors degree. There are many courses such as English, math, history, art, etc. that a student must go through before they get to start on the classes that concentrate on their intended major. These basic courses are part of a program called general education. After completing general education (which usually takes about two years), the students can then begin to study for their degree. Colleges should abandon the law of students having to take general education courses because the courses are irrelevant to their field of study, unnecessary and a waste of time. Instead of taking the extra courses, students can simply meet their needs of a degree in a shorter period of time. Also, Bloom not only that wants students to take general education courses, he wants them to further their education by taking advanced irrelevant courses. Therefore, in their future, they would have numerous opportunities for a better career. Because if a job is not right for the student, he would have other choices to obtain a new job. Rose feels students should not learn from the canon books style. Students have an easier time learning when they relate to the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

My Journey to College Essay My Journey to College I first came to the university during spring break of my junior year of high school. At the time I was just visiting the three main universities in Arizona so that I would be able to make an educated decision as to where I wanted to get my college education. There were many events showing me the way to this university and little did I know that these events would come upon me and that they would show me the doors to the place where I was truly meant to be. I had a small thought in mind of becoming a chef or something else in the hospitality field. My mom had heard about NAU's hospitality college and informed me that it was within the top ten. After being accepted my mom and I made another visit up to NAU so that I could see the university with different eyes, eyes that new this was where the journey of my life was heading next. We arrived at NAU and I was very excited to be on campus once again but with a completely new perspective. I met with an HRM advisor and talked a little more about the program. At that time I learned all about their study abroad program. From that information I decide that I wanted not to just be a hotel and restaurant major but that I wanted to be a full International Hospitality major. This was going to be a little more work than my original plan but I would get to study abroad and experience so much culture. After my meeting with the HRM advisor we headed over to the dorms to check them out. I ended up walking past Sechrist Hall first and was approached by an NAU student who seemed to be about a Junior and was an RA on one of the floors. As he approached me he said "Would you like me to show you around the building". Even

Why I Chose Barry University Barry University continues to be my number one choice to earn a higher education for two reasons. The first reason, I had such a wonderful experience as an undergraduate student in the Professional Adult Continuing Education (PACE) program. The evening classes fit perfectly into my work schedule, allowing me to continue working fulltime while earning my degree. In addition, the small class size and the extended class time created an atmosphere for learning, critical thinking, and time for students to spend one on one with the professors. At Barry I met students of various races and cultural backgrounds. The diversity of students generated interesting dialogues, which lead to healthy debates during class discussions and group assignments. I learned to look at life from various perspectives, and gained a new understanding of people in general. My most profound discovery was, once I understood the culture of the person, I developed a better understanding of the person's thoughts, views, and opinions. Eventually that void will be filled with a positive or a negative source. I believe we are obligated to go back and give back what has been given to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
Why I Chose When Attending A Small College Most colleges/universities in the world are overpriced and it takes not only a lot of money, but also perfect grades and exceptional extracurriculars to be able to get into them and pursue the career you want. Smaller colleges are expensive as well, but not as overpriced like all the big colleges. I would prefer to attend a small college in a small town. For example, I chose to attend West Hills Coalinga because I thought it would be a great experience since it is a small college; I come from a small town, therefore I would fit in better there than in a big school. Long Island University Application Essay Sample I know that thousands of students throughout the world have applied to Long Island University (LIU) because they hold it in high regard. I have admired LIU for quite some time, and from my many visits I have come to love the diversity of people on the campus atmosphere and need for knowledge at the Brooklyn Campus and in the nearby area. It is because of my extraordinary esteem for the university that I write this GPA letter of appeal. Students attending private universities pay an average tuition of $35,374. Those who attend a community college for the first two year of their education save $8,000 or more. Since most of the same financial aid including Pell grants and Stafford loans is available for any institution choice, students in the lowest income brackets can expect a larger financial aid refund from a community college than a university. Those who need a university education to meet their career goals may be able to attend a community college part time while they work and save up. Then, when they transfer to a university for their final two years, they may have saved enough that with financial aid, they can pursue their four–year degree. Community Colleges tend to have fewer students per class, which means more attention from teacher to student. This is good for students who like access to their instructors so they can ask questions and avoid getting lost in the course material. Universities are bigger than community colleges and it takes a little longer to find your way around campus. Most teenagers graduate from high school eager to leave their parents house and do grown up things. The benefit of attending a University is living on campus instead of your parent's home. Not all universities have dorms, but the majority of them do. Which you have to pay for parking, fitness center, laundry and other fees included.
