  2. Content • WP3 Overview • Work Performed • Work Planned • EUAsiaGRID VO • Issues

  3. WP3 Objectives Attract user communities Explicit support of applications in specific areas Active search for new user communities Help to establish appropriate Virtual Organisations

  4. WP3 Objectives (cont’d) Provide wide support to the use of actual applications Give support to EGEE applications (selected on the basis of already existing collaborations) Identify new user communities which could profit of the use of the Asian e-Infrastructure

  5. WP3 Involvement Institutions involvement all project partners are to contribute Work overview pre-selected application areas to be supported specific partners for each group search of new application areas with regional importance and coverage Own partner activities essential

  6. WP3 Deliverables D3.1 Specifications and requirements of the applications (M8 – November 2008) provide results of the search for new applications D3.2 Status of EU-Asia collaboration on EGEE and regional applications (M22 – January 2010) description of results achieved and problems encountered from the use of applications already ported and applications adapted D3.3 Final report on applications (M24 – March 2010) final state of the adaptation and availability of applications in the target Asian region

  7. Work Performed Formally-administrative steps first presentation during the kick-off (ISGC 2008) first contacts established however, not with all partners fortnightly regular meetings using Jabber complementary to the WP2 meetings minutes/transcripts available online

  8. Work Performed

  9. Work Performed Use of EGEE know-how EGEE application ‘cluster approach’ adopted EGEE application representatives officially contacted Dedicated Wiki for application domains Generic overview Resources current EGEE knowledge Achievements Contacts

  10. Application Domains Established areas High energy physics applications – Marco Paganoni Computational chemistry – Jan Kmunicek Mitigation of natural disasters – Eric Yen Bioinformatics and biomedics – Yannick Legre Social science applications – Alex Voss First new application area Cultural heritage – Suhaimi Napis

  11. WP3 and WP2 relations WP3 relies to some extent on WP2 surveys and their interpretation infrastructure status and availability Contribution to WP2 survey with application related issues WP3 has to exploit and further built on the knowledge obtained from WP2 survey(s)

  12. Work Performed/Timesheets Effort so-far invested in kick-off attendance marketing/dissemination logo, slide template, info sheets, website maintenance training (however, overlap with WP5) MIMOS training event, admin tutorial Many partners still did not report any effort INFN, HealthGrid, IDA, IOIT-HCM, ITM, UPM, ANU Almost no actual work with communities (end users) yet

  13. Worked planned Wiki content addition each task leader responsible for adding reasonable content to specific application pages (including current knowledge of the field, contact for further exploitation etc.) space for community contribution, if needed The foundations of a Collaborative portal Responsibility of task leaders for keeping the Wiki up to date and relevant for each community

  14. Application Wiki

  15. EUAsiaGRID VO EUAsiaGrid generic regional VO establishment Purpose to allow testing and production utilization of identified applications Technicalities CESNET will setup the core services ASGC to coordinate the resource subscription Each partner expected to gradually provide some resources Access Subscription open to all partner’s members Gradually extended also to personnel from other institutions

  16. Summary and Issues WP3 work starting, but rather slowly communication tools and wiki established Much activity needed by task leaders to activate individual communities Partner’s uneven participation in the WP3 activities the major reason for delays formal excuses running out individual tasks (application domains) not yet fully established lack of direct partners’ involvement

  17. EUAsiaGRID VO WE NEED YOU TO ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE AND CONTRIBUTE

  18. Items for Discussion WP3 work organization local EUAsiaGRID evangelists Collaborative portal content pointers to existing groups/activities Motivation to contribute and use EUAsiaGRID VO international collaboration (barriers to) Hiring process
