Lost TimeShould an employee need to miss time, two options are available for payment through Workers’ Compensation: Transitional Work/Salary and Wage Continuation through CMSD Temporary Total Disability through Ohio BWCAn employee can also opt to use their sick time instead of either benefit above. Regardless of which option, employee must also file a leave of absence if he/she is off work for any reason.

Transitional Work ProgramContingent on employee’s willingness to complyBenefits of program to Employee: stay on payroll continue on accumulated benefits receive full salary regardless of light dutyBenefits of the program to CMSD: reduces the cost of BWC claims gets employees back to work ASAP reduces the disruption to the department

  5. Transitional Work Once an employee is released to return to work with restrictions, all efforts will be made to return them to some type of work if they cannot perform their full duties with an accommodation.

  6. Transitional Work OptionsFirst Option: return to former duties with accommodations. Example- provide assistance with lifting weight outside of the pound limit.Second Option: return to a position within classification based on the limitations and restrictions. Example-clerical duties

  7. Temporary Total Disability through BWC Temporary Total Disability • Paid by State of Ohio • Does not pay into employee’s benefits • May eventually result in COBRA notice • May return with accommodations should employee’s department be able to accommodate. • Will be subject to reduced pay • Employee cannot receive both benefits

  8. Secretary’s Role • Refer employee to website and supply electronic forms • As timekeeper, know what benefits the employee is receiving • No access to medical information allowed • You should be contacted by HR and or Risk Manager with any changes • An employee CANNOT return to work unless cleared by Risk Manager

  9. District Leave of Absence Request Form • Form used for the following: • medical, paternity, adoption, FMLA, military and for work-related injury. • Injured worker will check “Disability Work Related Injury.” • Complete Sections 1-9 of the form.

  10. District Leave of Absence Request Form • Leave of Absence Request form and all supporting documents need to be returned to HR-LOA Specialist within 7 days of the injury • Notice will be provided within 7 to 10 business days of the receipt of the request. • A District Return-to-Work Request Form and a Physicians release to work must be submitted to HR prior to returning to work
