  3. CETL Status • In Jan 05 HEFCE awarded LU & CU CETL status for their Centre for Excellence in the University-wide Provision of Mathematics and Statistics Support –sigma • Funded at £500,000 per annum, with a further capital fund of £2M

  4. sigma – Centre for Excellence in Mathematics & Statistics Support sigma is built upon: • Coventry University’s Mathematics Support Centre • Supporting students since 1991 • Loughborough University’s Mathematics Education Centre • Supporting students since 1996 www.sigma-cetl.ac.uk

  5. Activities of sigma • Enhanced drop-in centres • Supplementary teaching & support • Specialist advice & training in stats • Specialist support of students with disabilities • Investigation & development of innovative uses of technology

  6. Support for Health Science Students • Coventry drop-in centre publicised to Health Science students • 4% of all student visits have been from the Health Science faculty • Providing an “on demand” service over the summer

  7. Resources • UK Mathematics Learning Support Centre • Website www.mathcentre.ac.uk • Pilot launched October 2003 • Funded by the Learning and Teaching Support Network (LTSN) • Sister project to mathtutor – funded by the HEFCE (Higher Education Funding Council for England)
