  2. Apie ugnikalnius • Ugnikalnis – kalnas su krateriu, pro kurį iš gelmių veržiasi lava, akmenys, pelenai, dujos. • Ugnikalniai yra svarbus Žemės reljefo ir klimato formavimo faktorius. Jie yra tarsi perkaitusio katilo dangčiai, išleidžiantys susikaupusį karštį. • Žemėje veikia daugiau kaip 800 aktyvių ugnikalnių, ir dar daugybė „snaudžia“. • Ugnikalnius tiriantis mokslas vadinamas vulkanologija.
