  2. State Implementation Grants for Improving Services for Children with ASD and other Developmental Disabilities Purpose: To improve access to comprehensive, coordinated health care and related services for children and youth with ASD and other developmental disabilities

  3. Grant Components • Partnership between families and professionals • Access to culturally competent family-centered medical home • Access to adequate health insurance and financing of services • Early and continuous screening of ASD and other DDs • Community services organized for easy use by families • Transition to adult care

  4. State Implementation Grants for Improving Services for Children with ASD and other Developmental Disabilities Grantees: • Alaska Department of Health and Social Services • The Hope Institute of Illinois • University of Missouri /Thompson Center • Utah Department of Health • Washington Department of Heath • Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services

  5. Common State Activities • provider training to conduct and improve developmental screening • medical home training / learning collaboratives • public and provider awareness campaigns • parent involvement • adequate funding of services

  8. State Public Health Coordinating Center for Autism Primary Purpose: Increase the capacity of state Title V agencies to enhance services and supports to children, youth and families with ASD and other developmental disabilities

State Public Health Coordinating Center for Autism • Virtual State Public Health Autism Resource Center (SPHARC) • Facilitate communication for states • Technical assistance to state grantees and all states • Collect Best Practices on autism and developmental disability service integration • Develop a public health policy framework • Foster state peer to peer mentoring

  10. Common Technical Assistance Needs Standards for care coordination Materials and strategies for rural populations Materials for Hispanic families Engagement of advisory groups Strategies around training providers Best practices around reimbursement
