Automatic generation of XTAHs from XML data trees to provide systematic and scalable guidance for XML query relaxation. System Overview • Using XML fragment as a basic information unit for relaxation. • Extending the standard XQuery with relaxation constructs and controls. Such a relaxed XQuery (RLXQuery) language enable users to specify relaxation constructs (e.g. approximate, preferred or unacceptable query conditions etc), and relaxation controls ( e.g. relaxation orders, answer set size, etc). • Using a knowledge-based relaxation index, XML Types Abstraction Hierarchy (XTAH), to guide the XML query relaxation process. XTAH is a tree-like knowledge structure that summaries XML data tree at different levels. XML Query Relaxation Control Flow The query relaxation techniques used in this research can also be extended to heterogeneous information integration for approximate matching of terms and/or sub-schema.
