  4. Richmond’s Key Points State Capitol of Virginia, Nicknamed the River City Population of approx. 200,000 within the city limits and 1.26 million over the metropolitan area (3rd largest in VA). Geographically located within 2 hours drive of Washington, D.C., Charlottesville, Williamsburg, and Virginia Beach. Set on the fall line of the James River and the intersections of Interstates 95 and 64. Climate includes 4 distinct seasons. Virginia Commonwealth Universitywww.vcu.edu A premier public research university located in downtown Richmond with more than 31,000 students pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees (24,000 undergraduate). The largest undergraduate majors are Biology, Psychology, and Mass Communications while the largest Graduate majors are Social Work, Business Administration, and Nursing. The University had a record $256 million in sponsored research funding in 2011. The VCU School of Arts is the #1 ranked public school of arts in the country. VCU is comprised of 208 buildings spread over two main campuses, a 90 acre Monroe Park campus in Richmond’s Fan District, and a 52 acre MCV campus adjacent to the State Capitol. VCU Health Systemhttp://www.vcu.edu/medicalcenter/ VCU Health System (VCUHS) is the clinical delivery component of the VCU Medical Center and is the only academic medical center in central Virginia. Originally established in 1838 as the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals, it transitioned into the current VCUHS in 2000.
