  2. Question: • How will Senior HS of the K to 12 Program help in ensuring employment for our graduates? • Answer; • The K to 12 BEC will be sufficient to prepare students for work. Students will acquire Certificates of Competency and National Certificates in accordance with TESDA(NC 1 for JHS, NC II for SHS) • There will be school-industry partnership for technical-vocational courses for students to gain work experience while studying, and to be absorbed by the companies

What would be the assurance that the K to 12 graduates will be employed? • ANSWER: • Deped has entered into an agreement with business organizations, local and foreign chambers of commerce and industries that graduates of K to 12 will be considered for employment. • DepEd ensures that “ENTREPRENEURSHIP” is taught and that competencies and standards of Senior HS graduates match with the College Readiness Standards.

How will the K to 12 Program help students intending to pursue college education? • ANSWER: • The K to 12 BEC is in accordance with the College Readiness Standard (CRS) and the new General Education of the CHED. • The CRS sets the skills and competencies required of the K to 12 graduates who intend to pursue higher education

What will happen to colleges, universities, and TVIs during the nationwide implementation of SHS in 2016? • ANSWER: • * DepEd shall offer a financing scheme with them to utilize existing facilities along with teaching and non-teaching staff to cushion the impact of the transition of Senior HS from 2016- 2018.

  6. Question: • 5. Where will the Senior HS be implemented? • ANSWER: • * Select public secondary schools, private schools, HEIs, and TEIs may offer Senior HS in addition to the new standalone Senior High Schools which may be built.

  7. Question: • 6. How will DepEd recruit enough teachers for SY 2016-2017 onwards? • ANSWER: • * R.A. 10533 or the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 allows for the hiring of non-licensed teachers to teach in high schools like: • Graduates of science, mathematics, statistics, music, engineering and other degree courses with shortages of qualified licensed teacher applicants • Graduates of Tech-Vocational Courses • HEI faculty • Practitioners teaching on a part-time basis (Ex. Accountants)

Question: • What are the guidelines for hiring non-licensed teachers to teach in senior high school? • ANSWER: • Non-licensed teach who shall teach in SHS must pass the LET within 5 years after the date of hiring to remain full-time. • However, if they will teach on part-time basis, they will • no longer be required to take and pass the LET.

  9. Question: • What are the guidelines for hired tech-vocational graduates, faculty of HEIs, and practitioners? • ANSWER: • Graduates of Tech-Voc. Courses must have TESDA certification, and shall undergo DepEd or HEIs training. • Faculty of colleges and universities must be full-time professors and be holders of a relevant Bachelor’s degree. • Faculty of TVIs and HEIs will be given priority in hiring for the transition period. • DepEd and private schools may also hire practitioners with expertise in the specialized learning areas offered in the K to 12 program as part-time teachers.

  10. Question: • How will the K to 12 affect the college curriculum? • ANSWER: • * The college General Education curriculum will be revised. It will have fewer units with the removal of unnecessary remediation. Details of the new GE Curriculum may be found in CHED Memorandum No. 20, s. 2013.

Question: • What are the selection criteria used in determining the track or specialization to be offered by the SHS implementer? • ANSWER: • Interests and needs of the students based on survey • Available resources in the locality • Opportunities and demands of the country • Course preference in college

  12. Updates on senior high school • *Definitely, there is NO EARLY IMPLEMENTATION of Senior High School in 2015 • *Not all public secondary schools will offer Senior High School • * Only 5 public secondary schools were proposed to offer senior high school in 2016

Facilitate the preparation activities such as: orientation, career guidance services, course preference surveys, early registration, monitoring, evaluation, and supervision of the senior high school implementers;

Conduct periodic assessments to gauge their readiness, and identify their needs to ensure smooth implementation of the program; • 4. Give recommendations/suggestions to SHS implementers to address their identified needs for teachers, facilities, laboratories, tools and equipment;

Submit status report on the implementation of Senior High School as may be required by the Division Committee for Senior High School implementation; • 6. Extend technical assistance in the preparation of the class program/schedule for senior high school, including resource generation and donation acquisition;

  28. FUNCTIONS OF THE FOCAL TEAMS FOR THE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLIMPLEMENTATION • 7. Establish partnership and linkages with the nearby industries, factories, and other business establishments for apprenticeship, on-the-job training for the senior high school students, and look for possible employment opportunities for the senior high school graduates; and • 8. Monitor closely the implementation of the Senior High School Curriculum by checking the availability and adequacy of the learners’ guides, teaching guides, and instructional materials.

Organize focal teams for each SHS implementer to help the Division Committee implement the Senior High School in 2016; • 2. Identify the public secondary schools qualified to offer senior high school, and their course offerings based on a particular set of criteria;

Prepare the Senior High School Implementation Plan specifying the activities, resources needed, and the timelines; • 4. Hold monthly meetings with the focal teams and other stakeholders for some updates, and give the necessary assistance/solutions to problems and issues pertaining to senior high school implementation;

Draft the Memorandum of Agreement/Understanding with the partner industries, factories, and business establishments for the on-the-job training of senior high students; • 6. Expedite the construction of the needed facilities, acquisition/procurement of tools/equipment for laboratory and workshop of the senior high school;

Consolidate the progress/update reports of the focal teams and make the necessary review, interpretation and analysis to resolve emerging problems; • 8. Conduct regular monitoring and evaluation of the Senior High School implementers, and prepare the needed reports required by the Regional and Central Offices;

Make proper coordination with the private secondary schools/higher education institutions for accommodation of senior high school students under the DepEd’s voucher program (GATSPE); • 10. Coordinate with TESDA/TEIs for trainings of teachers, assessment for the issuance of NC II or National Certificate of Competency, and accreditation.
