Book IX: Reader’s Guide Lines 1-19 Odysseus replied to King _______________, “There is nothing that is better than the summer time when we can all feast together and listen to music in this great hall.” Odysseus lifted his cup and toasts his companions. Then he begins to tell the story of his journey. Lines 20-40 Odysseus began by identifying himself as _______________’s son, _______________. Food was laced with a magical potion. • They all turned into pigs and Odysseus had to save them with the help of the other gods. • Odysseus ended up feasting and drinking wine with her for a year.

Character Traits • You will be given a number between 1 and 4 • 1 – Odysseus • 2 – Odysseus’ Men • 3 – Lotos Eaters • 4 – Polyphemos • What are some of the personality traits you would associate with your assigned character? • Be sure to have evidence from the text to back up your claims. Page and line numbers are necessary. • We will share these with the class to create a table nearing the end of class.
