  1. Concept NoteInnovative business models for scale-up application of photovoltaic technology in APEC by Zhejiang Provincial Energy Bureau May 21,2014 Kunming

  2. Basic Information • Proposing economy: • China • Co-sponsoring economies: • Thailand, Mexico, the United States, Vietnam • Budget: • USD100,000, • Project Oversee: • Zhejiang Provincial Energy Bureau

  3. Relevance • PV is one of most promising RE technology • The PV markets in the world has experienced the fastest growth • Till 2013 • Total 136 GW • newly-added 36.9 GW • Significant additions from APEC economies Source :IEA

  4. Relevance • Reductions of PV prices • Particularly from 2008 • More than 50% reduction since 2006

  5. Relevance • Change of support policies in recent year • Decrease in financial support in PV • Recently adopted FIT in Asia, ,e.g. China and Japan • Stopped or reduced FIT mainly in Europe • Problems exiting for PV projects • Financing • Electricity interconnection • Coordination of producer, consumer and the grid etc. • lack of knowledge for consumers • System and operation reliability, etc.

  6. Relevance • Innovation emerging • idea of “prosumers” (i.e. PV producers could be also consumers) , • self-consumption policies • new financing mechanisms for solar • community solar investments • PV application is changing from policy-driven to market-oriented. • The business models will play increasing role on PV market

  7. Relevance • Innovation emerging • idea of “prosumers” (i.e. PV producers could be also consumers) • self-consumption policies • new financing mechanisms for solar • community solar investments • PV application is changing from policy-driven to market-oriented. • The business models will play increasing role on PV market

  8. Relevance • According to “Funding Criteria for All APEC-Funded Projects in 2014” • Rank 1: • Investment, • Promoting cooperation in Environmental Goods and Services including trade and investment • Ease of doing business • Rank 2: • Promotion of Renewable Energy,…..Low Carbon technology, • Promoting Green Growth, • Promoting innovation policy and research cooperation

  9. Alignment • “Resilient Asia-Pacific, Engine of Global Growth” set for the 21st APEC Economic Leaders’ meeting on 8 October 2013 in Bali of Indonesia • invigorate work to develop clean and renewable energy through public-private partnership,…… • the Joint Ministerial Statement of the 25th APEC Ministers Meeting (Bali, Indonesia, 5 October 2013) • Promoting Clean, Renewable, and Sustainable Use of Energy • The objective of the Energy Working Group (EWG)

  10. Objectives To enhance understanding the innovative business models for solar PV systems, in terms of prerequisites, configurations, operating scheme and effectiveness etc.; To provide suggest on development of innovative business for APEC economies; To share experiences and lessons of business practices which has been successful in PV market, and disseminate project outcomes and findings

  11. Methodology • Workplan • investigation and review • Development of innovative business model • Case study on distributed PV business model • Finalization and dissemination • Beneficiaries: • stakeholders in PV market, • developers, investors, manufacturers, electricity consumers, building owners and the grid companies etc.

  12. Methodology • Evaluation: • deliverables including a midterm report, a case study report and a final report , • an international workshop with about 50 participants from participating economies and other ones. • project results published and uploaded via websites available • Linkages: • review the practice experiences and lessons in and beyond APEC, • build on previous APEC project related to the renewable energy business models,

  13. Thanks for your attentions!
