Marker BuoysEd Carew • New marker buoys from Go Deep International • -relatively inexpensive • -lighter and easier to handle • -float high & upright in the water • -more visible • -can load more buoys on the Miss L.A. • -fewer trips and shorter time to “get’r done” • Marker Buoys were deployed in Big Lake May 27, 2014 • Remaining markers are being deployed as we speak • Marker buoy locations shown on Website, Mississippi Belle, and laminated maps (for sale @ $5.00 per map) • Marker buoy co-ordinates for Magellan and Garmin hand held GPS units are available. Flood Plain Mapping Project Data Collected Fall 2012 detailed maps viewable at link below http://mvc.on.ca/mississippi-lake-map-update/ • Public Review and Open House Winter 2014 • Approved by MVC Board of Directors April, 2014 • Change in flood fringe elevation has increased from 135.6 m to 135.73 m (as recorded in 1998) • Additional properties subject to flood fringe policies Mississippi Lakes Association

Municipal Elections • Election to be held on October 27th • MLA will sponsor or co-sponsor “All Candidates Meetings” in Beckwith and DNE • Beckwith “All Candidates Meeting” on Oct 16th • D/NE “All Candidates Meeting” not yet organised as no candidates declared yet. • MLA partnering with other lake associations to determine candidates stance on “lake issues” • Candidates will be asked to provide written responses to a list of questions Mississippi Lakes Association

Municipal Elections con’t • In the 2010 Beckwith election with a population of about 7000 only 2072 (30%) residents voted • According to the 2011 census there were 2817 residential properties in Beckwith • About 620 (22%) of these are waterfront properties and virtually all are on the lake • Lake property owners are a significant block of voters that can’t be ignored by candidates Mississippi Lakes Association

  21. Commercial Docks Overview • John’s Marina permanently installed- about 80 slips ready for watercraft • McCreary’s docks in the water- about 40 slips for resort customers ? • Another 5 or 6 properties similarly zoned- could yield another 300 or so slips Mississippi Lakes Association

  22. MLA/John’s Marina Agreement “During the Public Consultation period several comments identified a desire for improved communication with and from John’s Marina. To that and in the spirit of partnering John’s Marina will attend the Mississippi Lake Association Annual General Meeting on an ongoing basis. The objective would be to listen to questions and concerns and in subsequent years to possibly report back on the progress of suggestions made at the previous MLA AGM”. MLA/John’s Marina Agreement cont. • Terms signed off by MLA and John’s Marina • John’s Marina will only be expected to attend MLA AGMs by invitation from the MLA President at least thirty days before date of the next AGM. • John’s Marina will be provided a designated place in the AGM agenda to listen and or respond to questions and concerns about the operations of the marina docks. • Questions and comments directed to John’s Marina at any MLA AGM will concern operations of the marina docks and will not concern the dock project itself. • All verbal exchanges between the attendees and John’s Marina will be moderated and controlled by the AGM chairperson.Terms endorsed by Joy Steritt, Resource Management Supervisor, MNR Kemptville Mississippi Lakes Association

FOCA • Passed a motion (Dec 2012) that requires Road Associations to join @ $125 to get certain benefits i.e. insurance discount • MLA was not specifically informed of this • At last year’s AGM we adjusted our fees to cover the per member increase but thought Road Associations were automatically FOCA members Mississippi Lakes Association

Our Fees and FOCA • Need to develop consensus on what to do now • Proposal by MLA Executive as follows: - • Withdraw from FOCA (a very sad move) • Retain the $7.50 MLA fee for 2014- This fee was approved at last year’s AGM • Scale back the $10 fee for 2015 to $7.50- $10 fee was also approved at last year’s AGMRequires motion from the floor to implement the above Mississippi Lakes Association

Water Quality Sampling Program History 2002 - MVC sampled Mississippi Lake (Watershed Watch Program–5 year cycle) 2006 - Initiated an Annual Sampling Program in partnership with MVC Followed the Watershed Watch Protocol 2007 - Lake Partner Program Sampling & Watershed Watch (MVC re-sampled) Mississippi Lakes Association 39 39

Incorporation: New Act • The new Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act (NFP Act) establishes a new set of rules for federally incorporated not-for-profit corporations in Canada. • These new rules will replace Part II of the Canada Corporations Act (old Act), the law that has governed federal corporations for nearly a century. • The corporation must replace its letters patent and by-laws with new charter documents by submitting articles of continuance to obtain a Certificate of Continuance and creating and filing new by-laws. The articles and by-laws must comply with the NFP Act. • Corporations Canada does not charge a fee to apply for a Certificate of Continuance and to file new by-laws. • Deadline for compliance is October 17, 2014. • New MLA Bylaws and Certificate of Continuance on MLA Website • Need membership approval to move forward.
