  9. Office of Scientific Research and Development The OSRD spurred improvements in radar and sonar, pesticides like DDT, miracle drugs such as penicillin and the atomic bomb.

  10. Women During WWII, women were actively recruited into what had been non- traditional work for women, including such jobs as welding, machinist, construction, and bus and truck driving. Internment of Japanese Americans On Feb. 19, 1942, President Roosevelt signed an executive order Requiring removal of people of Japanese ancestry from California And parts of Washington, Oregon, and Arizona to internment camps. In the following weeks, the army will round up some 110,000 Japanese Americans.
