  1. “And if it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve…” v.15 Our text this morning will be Joshua 24:1-15. A choice must be made. Eachmust make it. It must be made daily.

  2. A Choice Must Be Made We have to make up our mindsabout service. • Though three choices were presented by Joshua, two amounted to the same thing, resulting in only two viable options- Idols or the Lord, v.15. • Though thousands of years have passed since, we still have the same two choices, Rom.6:15-23. • Idolatrymake take many, many, different forms but is still just serving anything/one other than God, cp. Phil.3:19; Col.3:5> 1Cor.10:1-14. • But make no mistake: You have to choose- hesitating, delaying, or refusing to choose is a choice! 1Kings 18:21

  3. Each Must Make It Themselves No one else can choose for you- you must. • Note vv.1-2 of our text again. First Joshua called the “the elders…their heads...their judges…their officers…” But v.2 specifies “Joshua said to all the people…”Neither the elders, heads, judges, nor officers could make this choice for anyone- each had to choose for him/herself personally. • Nothing has changed in this regard- no one else can now choose for you: • Thegovernment can’t,Acts 5:17 > 27-29 • Yourparents/grandparentscan’t,John 9:18-21 • Your spouse can’t,Acts 5:1-2 > 5 > 9-10 • There is no partiality with God, each must choose for themselves, and will reap the results of the choice they make, Acts 10:34-35; Col.3:23-25.

  4. It must be made daily. Despite what we might think, this is not a one time for all timechoice. • The choice that Joshua commanded does affect tomorrow, a weekfrom now, a monthfrom now, a yearfrom now, a decadefrom now, and even a centuryfrom now (cf. v.15regarding “and my house”– Gen.18:19), but, • Please understand this works the other way too! This one choice is manifested: • Every day in how we choose to spend it, Eph.4:28 • Every hour in how we choose to spend it, Eph.4:32 • Every minutein how we choose to spend it, Eph.4:31 • Even virtually every secondin how we choose to spend it. Eph.4:29 • We manifest our choice perhaps hundreds of times each and every day through what we decide to do, or not do, in every situation and circumstance, cf.Mt.5:16.

  5. So, what will You choose? What the Israelites didn’t realize, and what we must comprehend, is that the “big picture” choice is a result not of what we say, but what we do every day, hour, minute, and second. • They said they chose God, Josh.24:16-18, • But Joshua accurately predicted that their actions would not manifest this professed choice, vv.19-20. • It’s actually very easy to knowhow we’re doing with ourprofessed choice, 1John 2:3> 3:7-10. What’s your choice today?
