  2. THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST Introduction 1. By God’s mercy & grace, Christ offered the perfect sacrifice for our sins. 2. MK. 16:6 He arose three days after his burial. 6 And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.

  3. THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST Introduction 3. MK. 16 The great resurrection day of Christ is the foundation of our faith in him. • Vv. 1-8 He is risen! We have hope! • Vv. 9-14 He is risen! We have evidence! • Vv. 15-20 He is risen! We have the Great Commission!

Vs. 1 Women Brought Spices to Anoint Him. • Jesus was quickly buried on Friday, leaving no time to apply spices for burial. 1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.

Vs. 2 They Came Sunday at Sun Rise. • Matt. 27:45 During his crucifixion the earth was shrouded in 3 hours of darkness. 2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.

Vv. 3-4 They Were Shocked the Tomb was Open. • The tomb was sealed with a great stone. 3 And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre? 4 And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great.

The Crucified Jesus Is the Risen Savior! 5 And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted. 6 And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.

Vv. 7-8 They Took the Message to the Disciples. 7 But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you. 8 And they went out quickly, and fled from the sepulchre; for they trembled and were amazed: neither said they any thing to any man; for they were afraid. Tell His Disciples And Peter!!!

  11. 9 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils. 10 And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept. 11 And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not. A. Vv. 9-11 The Disciples Did Not Believe Them. • The claim of the women was incredible!

Vv. 12-13 The Next Report Was Rejected. • Mounting evidence still seemed incredible. 12 After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country. 13 And they went and told it unto the residue: neither believed they them.

Vs. 14 Jesus Himself Appeared to Them. • Overwhelming evidence could not be denied! 14 Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.

Vv. 15-16 All Men Must Know. • We have sinned—our Savior has come— he died & arose for us—he will come again for us. 15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Vv. 15-16 All Men Must Know. • Faith in Christ must be obedient faith: we must submit to him in water baptism. 15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Vv. 15-16 All Men Must Know. • Christ washes away our sins, unites us to God, delivers us from hell, & leads us to heaven. 15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Vv. 15-16 All Men Must Know. • We must choose: the gospel confronts us with the reality of heaven & hell. 15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Vv. 17-18 He Gave the Apostles Power to Perform Miracles. 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Vv. 17-18 He Gave the Apostles Power to Perform Miracles. • “Them that believe:” plural pronoun refers to Apostles (vs. 7, “his disciples and Peter;” vv. 10-13, “them,” “they;” vs. 14 “the disciples”), NOT singular pronoun in vs. 16

Vv. 17-18 He Gave the Apostles Power to Perform Miracles. • Cast out demons: evil spirits afflicted people—Christ & his Apostles cast them out • Speak with new tongues: preach the gospel in every language—all the world must know

Vv. 19-20 He Returned to Heaven to Rule & Sent the Apostles to Preach the True Gospel. 19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. 20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

Vv. 19-20 He Returned to Heaven to Rule & Sent the Apostles to Preach the True Gospel. • He confirmed everything the Apostles preached as the true gospel by miraculous signs. • The New Testament is a perfect complete record of the true gospel & all signs confirming its truth—we do not need a new gospel or sign— we need to believe & obey the true gospel! • A State seal validates a legal marriage license— it does not need a new seal at every showing!

MK. 16:16 Decision time: Christ calls sinners to submit in obedient faith—he will save! • Not baptism only. • Not faith only. • Lifetime commitment—he will come again! 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
