  2. SHOULDER PARTNER: the person sitting next to youFACE PARTNER: the person facing you.

  3. PAIR, SHARE:Face partners or shoulder partners share information orally.

  4. TIMED PAIR, SHARE: One partner shares information orally till teacher calls SWITCH; then the other partner shares.

  5. MIX, PAIR, SHARE:The class mixes until the teacher calls “pair.” Students find a partner to discuss the teacher’s question.

  6. ROUND ROBIN:In teams, students take turns responding orally,1,2,3,4, or whatever order the teacher indicates.(The order could start with # 2, 3, or 4 going first!)

  7. ROUND TABLE:In teams, students take turns generating written responses. One piece of paper goes around with each student adding a piece of information.

  8. SIMULTANEOUS ROUND TABLE:In teams, students EACH write a written response, then pass his/her paper to the next person who adds a new response, etc. Each person will have a copy of all responses of the group.

  9. ONE STRAY :On each team, one teammate “strays” from his or her team to a new team to share information. The class mixes until the teacher calls “pair.” Students find a partner to discuss the teacher’s question. Sample question: What is or has been the greatest joy in your life?   10. NUMBERED HEADS TOGETHER:After writing their own answer to a question, teammates put their heads together to ensure all members can answer. Teacher calls a number and students with that number share their answers with the class. The class mixes until the teacher calls “pair.” Students find a partner to discuss the teacher’s question. Sample question: What is or has been the greatest joy in your life? The class mixes until the teacher calls “pair.” Students find a partner to discuss the teacher’s question.
