  3. Background – Objectives & Benefits – Scientific programme – Organisation– Partnership – Dissemination Background (1/3) • Road transport (Intelligent Transport Systems) and Personal mobility are the most promising markets for GNSS • European directives and national laws (ex: 2004/52/EC on Electronic Road Toll Systems, E112 on eCall..) require standards to frame new metrics TUD COST Action TU1302 • European mandates M/415 & M/496 (space industry standardisation), addressed to CEN/CENELEC and ETSI, mentioned GNSS road applications standards as a priority topic

  4. Background – Objectives & Benefits – Scientific programme – Organisation– Partnership – Dissemination Background (2/3) Technology-independent standards for performance definition and assessment of the GNSS-based positioning terminalsoutputs are the most expected, particularly for Liability-critical & Safety-critical applications such as: Road Tolling, eCall, Pay-as-you-drive insurance, ADAS, etc. But... Performance definition and assessment are very challenging for GNSS-based terminals since: TUD COST Action TU1302 • Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of the service are highly dependent on the way the application layers process the PVT, meaning that apportionment between application performance and positioning performance is very complicated • the performance of the positioning terminal is highly sensitive tothe operational scenario (environment and trajectory)

  5. Background – Objectives & Benefits – Scientific programme – Organisation– Partnership – Dissemination Background (3/3) HPE = Horizontal PositioningError Constrained environment (Lyon downtown) uBlox receiver + patch antenna TUD COST Action TU1302 Clear environment (Bordeaux ring-road) uBlox receiver + patch antenna
