  5. The Hemmes consisted of different meadows or fields; • There have been 10 windmills here for 250 years • Since the disappearence of the windmills at the end of the 19th century there has been no significant development

Rebuilding of windmills on the Hemmes • Rebuilding of mills increases the bond with the “Zaanse Schans’ and justifies the original image of the Hemmes and the Zaan; • The windmills as landmarks of the Hemmes; • A new generation of “Zaanse” windmills; millyards are production facilities (power, water purification, compost facility and companies in the mill barns); • A classic look from the outside, on the inside: built to generate; • Estimated power production (350.000 kWh/jaar). • The Hemmesgroep Foundation is supported by TU-Delft and two external advisors;

History and achievements • 4 people from Zaanstad with professional background, area knowledge and a large network; • Initial presentation of plans to government and interested parties (spring 2012); • Creation of steering committee with city counsil and owners of the land; • Expansion and detailing of plans • Rise of Foundation Hemmes Groep (July 2012); • Launch of foundation website (August 2012) with over 10.000 unique visitors (March 2013); • Capture of memories and stories of former inhabitants and neighbours; • Increase of the basis of the plan through gatherings and presentations; • Great exposure for the plans in local newspapers, websites and other media; • -Regular newsletters (every 2 months); • -Create business plan for the windmills; • -Visit similar projects in NL; • -Connect knowledge and skill to the foundation (TU-Delft, engineers, financial experts etc.); • -Convinced Province of Noord-Holland of compliance with wind policy; • -Organise Architect session; • -National exposure in media: (NOS Journaal and Trouw newspaper);

  13. The next step • Finalize the urban plan ; • Finalize the businessplan of the windmills; • Looking for investors • Bild the first phase of windmills as icons of the Hemmes
