Anne: Voilà la bibliothèque, la librairie universitaire et le resto-U. Alex: Il y a aussi un café? Anne: Oui, bien sûr! Les étudiants aiment bien le café. C’est le centre de la vie universitaire. Alex: En effet! Il y a vingt ou trente personnes ici et une étudiante àla bibliothèque!

Tu is used when speaking to … (Read page 42) • The plural of tu and vous is vous • Il and elle. As you know all nouns (people and objects) have a gender in French. (Read page 42) • The plural counterparts ils and elles are used in the same way as the singular forms

  20. Present tense of - ER Verbs Most French verbs have infinitives ending in –er: parler (to speak), aimer, (to like, to love). To form the present tense of these verbs, drop the final ER and add the endings shown in the chart • J’aime • Tu aimes • Il / elle aime • Nous aimons • Vous aimez • Ils / elle aiment • Note that the present tense (le present) has several equivalents in English • Je parle français • I speak French • I am speaking French • I do spaek French

  25. La négation : NE … PAS • To make a sentence negative in French, NE is placed before a conjugated verb and PAS after it • Je parle chinois----> Je ne parle pas chinois
