Ephesians 4:1-6 “1I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, 2With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; 3Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,6One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all”

Introduction • Verses 4-6 emphasize we must uphold truth! • Unity based on accepting objective truth! • Christians cannot accept or practice error! • Love rejoices in truth - 1 Corinthians 13:5-6 • Love alone is not sufficient! • Truth must include humility & love! • These facts set forth by Paul are the common ground for spiritual fellowship and true unity! • Form the ground of ONENESS! • Each fact is a spiritual reality! • They are not subjective, but objective!

  4. 1 Body There Is • The Body is the Church and the Church is the Body • Ephesians 1:22-23; 5:22-23; Colossians 1:18, 24 • Christ built the Church! • He owns it! • He governs it! • He purchased it! • It is His Kingdom! • Matthew 16:13-19 “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood” - Acts 20:28

  5. 1 Spirit There Is • Jesus promised the Holy Spirit to His Apostles! • John 14:26; 15:26; 16:7, 13 • Luke 24:46-49; Acts 1:8; 2:1-4 • Provides one rule of conduct! • Galatians 1:6-9; Ephesians 3:3-5 • The revelation of the One Spirit is all we need! • 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:3 “For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.” - 1 Corinthians 12:13

  6. 1 Hope There Is • Man has many “hopes”! • 1000 Year reign of Christ on earth! • Hope of a rapture! • Hope of some experience! • Hope of some special message! • Hope of salvation by “faith only!” • Hope of physical health and wealth! • The “one hope” is the Hope of Heaven! • 1 Peter 1:4; 2 Timothy 4:8; Romans 8:24, 25 • Ephesians 1:3; James 2:24 “For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel” - Colossians 1:5

  7. 1 Lord There Is • Jesus Christ is Lord! • David called Him “My Lord”! • Matthew 22:41-46 • Paul called Him “…King of Kings and Lord of Lords.” • 1 Timothy 6:15; cf. Revelation 17:14; 19:16 • Must be obedient to Him! • Luke 6:46; Matthew 7:21-23; Hebrews 5:8-9; John 12:48 • He has ALL authority! – Matthew 28:18 “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ” - Acts 2:36

  8. 1 Faith There Is • It can and must be preached! • Mark 16:15 • It can and must be obeyed! • Acts 6:7; 2 Thessalonians 1:6-10; Romans 6:17-18 • It can and must be “contended for”! • Jude 3; Philippians 1:27 • The “one faith” is the only faith that saves! • Romans 1:17-18; 3:19-22; Galatians 1:6-7 “But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith” - Galatians 2:22-24

  9. 1 Baptism There Is • For allpeople– Matthew 28:19 • That follows faithin Christ – Mark 16:15-16 • That saves the lost – 1 Peter 3:21; Acts 2:38 • That is in the name of the Lord Jesus– Acts 10:48 • By which wecontact the blood of Christ– Romans 6:3-4 • By which we put onChrist – Galatians 3:27 • In which we are buried with Christ – Colossians 2:12 • That continues until Christ’s return – Matthew 28:19-20 “One Lord, one faith, one baptism” - Ephesians 4:5

  10. 1 God and Father There Is • This means NO OTHER gods! ONE & ONLY ONE! • 1 Corinthians 8:4-7; Acts 17:16-29; • God (our Father) is in Heaven! • Matthew 6:9 • He is over all!He inherently possesses authority over His creation. • 1 Corinthians 11:3; 15:24-27; Psalms 83:18 • He sustains all - His blessings make our lives possible! • Jeremiah 23:24; Psalms 139:7-10 • No other“god” is the “true and living God”! • Mohammad, Allah, Buddha & all “others” areDEAD!- Acts 14:15 “But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand” - Isaiah 64:8
