  6. What is a Structure…… • A structure is also known as a Formation. • It is how your team is set up e.g 4-4-2 in football • A basketball specific offence example would be a 1-2-2 or a 1-3-1 Motion Offence. • 1(Point Guard) 2(Shooting Guards) 2(Forwards) PG

  7. What is a Strategy • A strategy is more simply known as a Game Plan • This is a plan of action, that is devised before an activity begins. This can be adapted at any time (Plan B,C,D) • For example a footballing strategy may be to adopt either Zonal or Man to Man Marking. • Basketball Specific Examples • Offence – Fast Break • Defence – Man to Man Defence, Zone Defence

  8. Remember…. • The Structure, Strategy or composition adopted will take into consideration the strengths and weaknesses of 3 things • You • Your Teammates • Your Opponents

Fast Break(Offensive Strategy) • Used to break up the court quickly • Catch the defence out • Speed needed • Good decision making • Good communication • Use it wisely • Used to try and create an overload situation (2v0,2v1, 1v0, 3v1, 3v2) • Used against slow defences, and if there are fast players in your team.

Fast Break (Know each step-by-step) • Force a turnover, ball intercepted, basket missed and ball rebounded, ball out of bounds) • Attacking players must ‘fill the lanes’ • Outlet pass, to one of the players filling the lanes • Ball dribbled up the court at pace trying to drive to the basket unopposed (1v0 situation) • Ball dribbled up the court quickly, bounce pass to supporting player to score with a lay-up (2v1 situation.)

  11. Three main phases of the fast break • Rebound and Outlet Pass (Defensive Phase) • Drive up to the centre of the court and the bounce pass (Transition Phase) • The collection of the bounce pass, and drive towards the basket for the lay-up shot. (Attacking Phase)
