  1. Anonymous By Josh Ryan

  2. The infamous international organization- a collective of hackers and I diverse group of individuals. • A organization that has defeated government sites and challenged the most advanced security organizations in America- Anonymous.

  3. Issue • Is anonymous good or bad for the general public?

  4. Discussion • Anonymous came into world prominence first with its appearance in the scientology protests- where its iconic Guy Fawkes mask was used to conceal their identities. • Following this, Anonymous as a collective organization has become increasingly striking- rising from leading protests, to combatitively protecting and encouraging them. Oparation BART and Occupy Wall street where vivid examples- broadcasting the message across media for the public to see.

  5. Making sense of it… • Anonymous has been found to have interests not in themselves- with proof given through its hacking and theft of millions of euros- but its donation solely to nonprofit organizations. The group has no intention of self profit, but risks ones self in its goal • A assumption generated from the evidence of Anonymous’ actions points towards the fact that many of the groups members have little to lose- and if not- feel obligated to the cause of fighting political and social corruption.

  6. Con • Despite the perceived positive deeds, Anonymous has a dark side- it has released the personal information on tens of thousands of people including prominent politicians and police officers. • Anonymous also target major banking and credit companies such as BofA, Chase, and a number of other companies. A target for “lulz” was Bethesda studios- with the excuse of curiousity over the game “Skyrim” prior to its release. • Anonymous has been recognized for blatantly violating privacy and personal securities while breaking the law.

  7. Why? • Despite Anonymous having generally good intentions, its composure is by nature-transperant and thus many are renegade meaning that their values and goals are different. For example- Anonymous being tagged in targeting a online page dedicated to combating cussing which was founded by a teen- it had no relevance and little gain other than in Anonymous’ quote “for the lulz” – or the humor in causing havoc amongst a group. • Anonymous also takes a aggressive active stance in comparison to the popular peaceful protests. This stance is destructive if used effectively- which has permamantly damaged a number of reputations of both individuals and major corporations.

  8. Conclusion • Pro -benevolent to the mass majority -combats corruption and police abuse -supports freedom of information • Con -has caused a great deal of damage to a number of targeted groups/individuals. -Has broken laws and performed highly illegal actions. - Often relies upon a intimidation faction build by its world class reputation.

  9. Anonymous is good because: • The argument against anonymous pits only feeble examples of its misdeeds, which its achievement include the backbone of humanitarian movements such as Arab Spring. • Opposition also tends to leave out the fact that members of anonymous can literally be anyone- and they come from a global population, not just that of the US. • What makes anonymous goos is the fact that its goal is clearly for the benefit and justice of the common man and public- not that of themselves or the wealthy minority.
