  1. Why You Should Dust off Those GardeningGloves???

  2. No one can fail to have noticed that the clouds have parted, the rain has stopped (albeit temporarily) and there is a big, yellow ball of fire glowing brightly in the sky. Spring has most definitely sprung and summer is well on her way. With such drastic improvements in the weather many of us turn our thoughts to a spot of home improvement and maybe even a cheeky barbeque (or two). However, if you have turned a blind eye to your lawn, and ignore the needs of your hedges there’s a good chance that you need to get involved in some garden maintenance – and urgently. No one wants to have to fight through a jungle to reach the sausages.

  3. Asides from the fact that it makes sense to keep your garden looking neat and tidy, there are other reasons why getting in to gardening can be a good idea.

  4. It’s Great Exercise! Assuming you actually get out there instead of simply watching a few gardening programmes, this really can be a great form of exercise. All that bending, carrying, lifting, weeding, pulling, planting and cultivating can do wonders for your physique and save you a fortune on gym fees in the process. Not only that but all that sun (take the necessary precautions of course) and fresh air can do wonders for you and help ensure a good night’s sleep at the end of a fun day.

  5. It’s Good Therapy. It’s good therapy. If you have spent the week in an office and find yourself feeling particularly stressed out, getting your hands dirty and growing something can be a really useful form of therapy. Imagine how much frustration you could get out of your system by tracking down and digging out weeds and other unsightly ghouls.

  6. You Are What You Eat. You are what you eat. With many of us becoming more concerned about what we consume, taking the time to grow your own vegetables and herbs can be a fantastic way to be 100% sure you know what it is you’re eating. In turn it can help you become more self-sufficient, not having to rely on the limp, pathetic lettuce that has been left at the back of the shelf. Growing vegetables and other consumables can also have a significant impact on your bank balance – let’s face it, seeds are a lot cheaper to buy than groceries.

  7. Convinced it’s a good idea, but not sure where to start? Well, don’t worry. Most local libraries will have plenty of books on the topic available for the beginner, so you can quickly and easily find out all you need to know. Lost your library card? Well never fear, the internet is full of forums, web sites, blogs and articles that will provide you with every answer to any question you might have.
