OBJECTIVES • Motivating students to study authentic materials • Practicing argumentative speaking skills • Enhancing students’ legal vocabulary in the area of Private International Law (PIL) • Improving students’ understanding of PIL concepts and their application
PREPARATORY STAGES STAGE 1 (teacher) • selecting reliable sources of material to be studied by students • preparing the glossary of terms • preparing the scenario • test compilation STAGE 2 (teacher students) • familiarizing students with the procedure • assigning roles and distributing role-based tasks • providing students with the materials to be used for preparation
DISCUSSIONSTAGE 3 • role-play presentations by students of PIL theories with a focus on either strong or weak points of certain doctrines • selection by the jury panel of the brightest presenter • voting on the most successful doctrine operating in PIL

KNOWLEDGE AUCTION(an open cry type of auction)STAGE 4 RULES PROCEDURE handing out photocopies with test questions group discussions of the correct answers to bet on students buying the answers to the test questions one at a time checking which answers are correct identifying the winner • teams of three or four • £20,000 for each group to spend • minimum bid value is £1000, but no minimum bid increment • the team with the most correct sentences wins • in the case of a tie, the team with the most money left wins
