WHAT IS PARKSMART?. PARKSMART takes a close look at how people are parking around the school. It aims to make people think about the dangers their parking may cause. It asks parents to consider walking to school or parking a bit further away from school.

  1. WHAT IS PARKSMART? • PARKSMART takes a close look at how people are parking around the school. • It aims to make people think about the dangers their parking may cause. • It asks parents to consider walking to school or parking a bit further away from school. • It helps make your route to school safer.

  2. WHY PARKSMART? • We have a number of problems around the school caused by poor parking. • We have had letters of complaint from local residents. • If people don’t park safely someone is going to get hurt. • We want more children to be able to walk or cycle to school safely.

  3. WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP? • Talk to your parents about safer places to park. • Return your pledge form as soon as possible. • NAG, NAG, NAG…YOUR PARENTS!

  4. WHAT HAS HAPPENED ALREADY? • Last week we did a Parksmart count around the school grounds. • This count showed the number of cars not parking safely around the school.

  5. WHAT WE FOUND? WE FOUND UNSMART PARKING: • IN LOADING BAY, DOUBLE PARKED, BLOCKING JUNCTIONS/CORNERS • CARS DOUBLE PARKED IN CAR PARK • CARS ON DOUBLE YELLOW LINES • CARS ON ZIG ZAGS • CARS BLOCKING DRIVEWAYS • CHILDREN AT RISK BETWEEN CARS

  6. WHAT WE ALSO FOUND CARS PARKING SMARTLY: • PARKING AWAY FROM CORNERS • USING PARKING BAYS • USING PARKING ZONES • SAFE DISTANCE FROM CROSSING • SAFE ROUTE FOR CHILDREN

  7. WHAT NEXT? • Pledges have been given out to everyone in the school which need to be returned as soon as possible. • We will repeat the count next Tuesdsay to see if things have improved. • A police officer will be monitoring the school grounds next week to ensure everyone is parking safely. • We will publish the results in the school newsletter and on the website.

  8. PRIZE DRAW • Every pledge returned will be entered into a prize draw and you could win a prize!!

  9. COMPETITIONS We have also organised some competitions for the Parksmart Campaign • Nursery and P1 – colouring competition • P2 and P3 – poster competition • P4 and P5 – Acrostic Poem using PARKSMART • P6 and P7 – poetry competition Teachers will be given further information next week.
