  1. Properties Of Original Watercolor Paintings Artists Ought To Know

  2. Watercolor paints are composed of two elements namely binding medium and the pigments. Pigments are what produces color on the pain and are of two types- organic and inorganic. Binding mediums are synthetic elements that differentiate paintings from others. Artists love to explore their artworks and they need to understand the various qualities and their impacts on the paintings. This will help them design objective and enticing artworks. Look at the elementary watercolor properties as described below.

  3. Granulation The pigments suspended on the water can make the paint either light or heavy. The heavy pigments normally separate themselves and gather at the paper tooth forming sediments. The sedimentary pigments appear like grains forming a unique texture. This quality brings out fun and good texture to a watercolor painting.

  4. Fugitive and non-fugitive quality How long the painting lasts is a factor of the painting’s lightfast quality. The fugitive paint has poor lightfast aspect and tends to fade fast hence should be avoided. On the other hand, non-fugitive paint has excellent lightfast effect and does not fade easily hence making your watercolor paint long-lasting. This feature is normally labeled on the paints on a scale.

  5. Transparency and opacity Original watercolor paintingscan be classified into 4 Opaque Semi-opaque Transparent Semi-transparent

  6. Opaque paintings do not allow light to shine through the paper and they are thick and misty. Transparent watercolor paintings permit the passing of light through the paper and reflect from the paper. The colors of a transparent painting are very glossy. Both Semi-opaque paintings and semi-transparent fall between the two major categories- opaque and transparent.

  7. Staining and non-staining watercolors Staining paints cannot be rubbed because once put on a paper, they infiltrate and stain it permanently. Even after drying, they hardly come off. Non-staining paints however remain on the paper surface and can be erased after drying. Watercolor artists need to know these features so as to perfect their artworks.
